Whoops
This morning I woke up early, showered, got dressed in the dark, and went down to the food court to get our coffee before Harry woke up. It wasn’t until much later as I was brushing my teeth after breakfast that I looked at myself in the full length mirror and had to laugh because I realized my blue jean skort was on backwards. The back pockets were on the front and the fake fly was on the back. Don’t worry, only dozens of people saw me. It’s not like the resort was deserted or anything.
Olaf Puppet
They gave us an Olaf puppet at the entrance to Hollywood Studios. He got kind of wrecked from being in the bottom of the stroller and dragged along the ground a bit. I could probably make one at home—that looks like a paint stirring stick.
Free Timbits were “Num, num!”
The free timbits were num num according to Harry. Honey dipped!
John’s new phone made a handy “mini iPad” while waiting to board. We also found the Fisher Price Play Gate which had a slide, musical activity tables, and ride-on zebras (all made by Fisher Price of course). Harry loved that area. It kept him busy and let him burn off some energy before we got on the plane.
The highlight of the Pop Century resort so far for Harry has been the kiddie pool in the 1960’s themed area (near the Hippy Dippy Pool). He had great fun splashing around and wading through the extremely shallow water (notwithstanding a minor incident involving swallowing and regurgitating said water all over his mother).
After a nice warm shower and some bedtime stories, we basically all got ready for bed and darkened the room. Then I sang to Harry and put him in his pack and play. He was asleep by 8:45 which isn’t really too much later than normal. Could have been worse. All in all, a good first day, topped off with an amazing view of the fireworks right outside our window. And thankfully the noise from that didn’t even faze our sleeping boy. What a trooper!
Stroller napping practice
Stroller napping practice was a success. Hopefully this works as smoothly in the parks. Waking up is always difficult though!
Harry wants to meet Woody
Can’t wait to see Harry’s reaction when he meets Woody in person! Definitely adding that to our list of must-do character meet-and-greets.
More Hoop Dee Doo Photos
More pictures from Hoop Dee Doo. Nothing better than having someone sing to you about the food you’re about to eat. Our waitress even came out on stage with the tray of strawberry shortcake. It was scrumptious – worth singing about!!
Magic Kingdom Pumpkins
Pumpkins all over Magic Kingdom today. Lots of fall leaf wreaths too (kind of funny to see in Florida where the trees are still all naturally green, of course).
Pool at POP Century
Our hotel pool (which we have no time to swim in, haha).
Breakfast at the Main Street Bakery Starbucks, with a nice view of the castle.
Be Our Guest Restaurant: tuna Niçoise salad, turkey Dijon sandwich with pomme frites, chocolate cream puff and strawberry cupcake. The servers bring your food out on little trolleys. They tracked John’s magic band to find where we were sitting! We ate in the grand ballroom.
Dining at Les Chefs de France
Dining at Les Chefs de France: French onion soup, beef tenderloin and short ribs, with pineapple, mango and coconut sorbets for dessert. Remy the rat from Ratatouille came to visit our table!
No Muppets lost today
0/3 muppets lost today. This is good!
Marrakesh Restaurant
Loved the decor in Marrakesh: marble floors, painted ceilings, ornate carvings.
Moroccan food at Marrakesh
Moroccan food at Marrakesh: Sultan’s sampler, salmon with tomatoes & mushrooms, fruit with mint ice cream, bastilla dessert.
Disney Villains Dance Party
Got up nice and close to watch the Disney villains dance outside the castle. It’s not everyday you get to see Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and the Queen of Hearts in a rousing musical number.
Magic Kingdom (including the staff who passed out candy) was all decked out in orange, purple, and green for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Dinner at Tusker House
We ate supper at Tusker House, a buffet style restaurant with mostly African food. (They had a few American dishes like corn dogs and mac’n’cheese for the kids.) The buffet area looks like an African marketplace! We enjoyed the curry chicken, mango chutney, seafood stew, couscous, plantains, roast beef, pork loin, samosas, and of course, the dessert table! The warm banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce (their specialty) was very good.
The Lion Sleeps Tonight
The grand finale: The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Some kids from the audience got to participate. What a fun experience for them!
Monkeys!
We were so close that we got high-fived by one of the monkeys! He came right up to our row near the end of the show.
