Animal Kingdom is under heavy construction for Avatar land. There are construction walls everywhere, especially surrounding the tree. We only really saw one spot to actually get a decent picture in front of the tree.

Lunch at the Yak & Yeti counter service: sweet and sour chicken and honey chicken with banana pudding and frozen lemonade for dessert. There were ducks waddling under our table eating all the food that people dropped.
After we left the Affection Section to get back on the train, Chip and Dale were just wandering around and Chip came over to pat Harry on the head.
Petting more goats. And a rock.
Petting a goat
Harry loved the Affection Section at Animal Kingdom. All rare breeds of domesticated animals (goats, cows, sheep, and pigs).
The Affection Section continued…
See the hidden Mickey ears, kind of?
These sheep had really, really soft wool.
Riding the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Animal Kingdom. Harry kept saying choo choo, ding ding, and beep beep.
Yesterday we met Dug the dog and Russell the little boy from the movie Up. Since this is not one of the most popular character greetings, we didn’t have to wait long in line and we could watch the other people in front of us meeting the pair. When we got to the front I lifted Harry out of his stroller and told him it was our turn next. He took one look at Dug and Russell, put his hands up to his face and exclaimed, “Oh my!” It was so priceless, I wish we would have captured it on camera.
Russell gave me and Harry a big hug and then Dug put out his paw to shake our hands. Harry was quite happy to see them both and probably would have loved to stay with them longer, but we had to let the next people have their turn. He happily followed my encouragement to wave bye-bye and then as we walked away he blew them a kiss.
On the African Safari ride in Animal Kingdom. Harry loved seeing all the animals. That giraffe actually bumped its head on our truck.
We ate supper at Tusker House, a buffet style restaurant with mostly African food. (They had a few American dishes like corn dogs and mac’n’cheese for the kids.) The buffet area looks like an African marketplace! We enjoyed the curry chicken, mango chutney, seafood stew, couscous, plantains, roast beef, pork loin, samosas, and of course, the dessert table! The warm banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce (their specialty) was very good.
The grand finale: The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Some kids from the audience got to participate. What a fun experience for them!
We were so close that we got high-fived by one of the monkeys! He came right up to our row near the end of the show.
We skipped the parade at Animal Kingdom to see Festival of the Lion King. We were not disappointed we did so! Music, dancing, a fire eater, performers on stilts, and acrobats dressed up as monkeys… What a great show!
Triceratops spin. No line. Couldn’t resist. The “Dumbo ride” of animal kingdom.
Saw this creature on our safari: it had zebra striped legs and a brown body. Didn’t know God made such a thing!
